Angus McPake and Lenny Helsing were tireless busy bees in mid-80 Edinburgh. It seemed to me that between them, they were part of a good half of the local scene. Judge for yourself!
Angus McPake played in Jesse Garon & The Desperadoes, The Fizzbombs, The Househunters (at least on stage) and The Thanes.
Lenny Helsing played in The Green Telescope, The Stayrcase, The Offhooks and The Thanes (with Angus).
And here, I’m just speaking of the bands I had the chance to see live at the time and I may have even forgotten about a couple of them.
Their common musical adventures date back to the Rubber Dolfinarium which had already split when I arrived in Scotland. The Beeville Hive V may have been their second band together. It was a great garage punk band that I really loved to see live!
To my knowledge, their only officially released track was the deliciously primitive “Beer, beer, beer” on the “Raw Cuts Volume Seven - UK Garage Disease” compilation.
Here are a few long lost demos from this legendary band 😉
Tracks:
• Stormy
• Not In Vain
• 2 Million Years Ago
• Complication
• Hearin’ Lies
• I Can Tell
• Beer (Beer, Beer)
• Sometime Ago
• One Day Girl
