Jesse Garon and the Desperadoes live at the Onion Cellar (1987)

Jesse Garon and the Desperadoes are one of the great unsung scottish indie pop heroes, still waiting for a proper reissue.

The BMX Bandits live at the Onion Cellar (1986)

If my memory serves me well, this gig was for the release of the E102 single. It might have been the second (or third?) time I saw them live and it was, as always, a happy moment.

As far as the healing properties of the BMX bandits songs are concerned, I will leave the floor to Adrian Gent :

“E102 “ is of those few songs that continues to always make me smile and feel happier than before I put it on - when the massed kazoos of the Heart St Girls School Marching Band kick in for the rousing finale after that cheeky
little break that repeats the intro... Joy!
By pure chance I was feeling a little melancholy and played it this afternoon and, as Wayne Coyne once sang, “Do you realize that happiness makes you cry?”
Then I put on the Langley Schools Project cover of “God Only Knows” and that finished me off!

Note: It was one of the three Onion Cellar nights at Rumours on Lothian Rd while The Place was getting refurbished.

The Television Personalities live at the Onion Cellar (1986)

On this particular night, The TVP’s played a set that lasted close to three hours. Everybody was there, from the BMX Bandits to the Pastels, enjoying the show.
I remember it as a great evening, my first real exposure to the TVP’s weird and wonderful world.
